The Nigerian Army has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting government efforts in protecting and reintegrating refugees, migrants, and internally displaced persons (IDPs) across the country.
Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, Chief of Army Staff (COAS), made the pledge on Thursday while receiving the Federal Commissioner of the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), Honourable Dr Tijani Aliyu Ahmed, at the Army Headquarters in Abuja.
General Shaibu emphasized the link between security and displacement, noted that lasting solutions for displaced persons require stability and effective civil–military cooperation. He assured that the Army’s operations continue to prioritise the safety of civilians and create secure conditions for the return, resettlement, and reintegration of displaced communities.
The Commissioner Dr Ahmed expressed gratitude for the Army’s support, recalling its key role in past evacuation and repatriation exercises of Nigerians from Cameroon. He called for sustained collaboration as the Commission prepares for future humanitarian missions, stressing that military partnership is essential for both operational success and improving the lives of displaced persons.
The visit underscored the Nigerian Army’s ongoing role in humanitarian support, aligning national security efforts with initiatives that restore dignity and improve livelihoods for vulnerable populations.
