In a bid to strengthen its operational capacity amid increasing security challenges, the Nigerian Army has announced the redeployment of several senior officers across various commands.
This move, approved by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt Gen Olufemi Oluyede, is aimed at boosting the Army’s effectiveness in addressing the ongoing threats of terrorism and insecurity across the country.
The announcement, made by Army spokesman Maj Gen Onyema Nwachukwu, highlighted that the redeployment affects Principal Staff Officers (PSOs) at the Army Headquarters (AHQ), General Officers Commanding (GOCs), Corps Commanders, Brigade Commanders, and other critical positions.
Notable among the new appointments are Maj Gen LA Fejokwu as Chief of Administration (Army), and Maj Gen GU Chibuisi as Chief of Civil Military Affairs. Maj Gen OS Abai has been appointed Chief of Transformation and Innovation, while Maj Gen EI Okoro is now the Military Secretary (Army).
Key leadership changes included Maj Gen OT Olatoye taking over as GOC 82 Division and Commander of Joint Task Force (JTF) South East Operation UDO KA, and Maj Gen EF Oyinlola as GOC 3 Division and Commander of Operation SAFE HAVEN.
The appointments of Maj Gen AGL Haruna and Maj Gen IA Ajose as GOCs of 7 and 8 Divisions, respectively, have also been confirmed.
Additionally, Maj Gen GO Adeshina has been named Director General of the Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre, and Maj Gen GM Mutkut has been posted as the Force Commander at the Multi National Joint Task Force in Njamena.
This strategic redeployment is part of the Army’s ongoing efforts to enhance its operational readiness and ensure the security of the nation. The Nigerian Army reiterated its commitment towards protection of the country’s sovereignty and ensuring peace and stability for its citizens.
