The Nigerian Army Signals (NAS) successfully held its Annual Conference 2026 at the Commander Corps of Signals Conference Room, Headquarters NAS, Arakan Cantonment, Lagos, from 8 – 11 February. The event brought together senior officers, directors, commanders, and key stakeholders of the Corps to discuss critical communication issues and set a forward-looking agenda to strengthen operational effectiveness.
In his opening remarks, the Commander Corps of Signals (CCS), Major General Tanimu Abdullahi, highlighted the conference’s goal of reviewing challenges facing the Corps and formulating practical strategies for improvement. He reaffirmed the NAS’s mandate to provide reliable, secure, and responsive communication support to the Nigerian Army (NA) across operational, logistics, and administrative functions.
Major General Abdullahi emphasised alignment with the Chief of Army Staff’s (COAS) Command Philosophy of transforming the Nigerian Army into a more professional, adaptable, and combat-ready force. He stressed that the Corps’ transformation into a highly technical and innovative unit, leveraging modern technology, remains central to delivering seamless communication support in today’s dynamic security environment.
The CCS identified the Nigerian Army School of Signals as the nucleus for capacity development, doctrinal evolution, and technological advancement. He disclosed plans for phased upgrades of communication infrastructure, effective equipment life cycle management, and the adoption of network-centric operations, cybersecurity measures, and digital transformation initiatives to enhance efficiency and decision-making.
Highlighting the importance of human capital, Major General Abdullahi said continuous training, structured professional development, and technical certifications will remain priorities to ensure competence and adaptability across all cadres. He also directed commanders to prioritise the welfare and development of subordinates, in line with the COAS’s “Soldiers First Concept.”
Expressing gratitude to the COAS, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, for his support and strategic guidance, the CCS underscored the importance of professionalism, innovation, and accountability in sustaining operational effectiveness.
As the conference concluded, Major General Abdullahi commended participants for their active engagement and charged commanders to implement the resolutions within their respective formations and units. He expressed confidence that the collective vision and professionalism demonstrated during the conference would further strengthen the NAS’s capacity to support the Nigerian Army across all operational theatres.
