The Federal Government of Nigeria has expressed sadness over the apparent coup d’état that reportedly hit Conakry, the capital of Republic of Guinea in the West African country today Sunday 5th September.
Alpha Conde, the President of the country, was said to have been captured by the soldiers.
The 83-year old president won a third term after tinkering with the constitution.
Nigerian government in a press statement signed the spokesperson of Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mrs.Esther Sunsuwa on Sunday, 5 September, 2021,described the coup d’état as a clear violation of the ECOWAS Protocol on Democracy and Good Governance.
“The Government of Nigeria strongly condemns and rejects any unconstitutional change of government and therefore calls on those behind this coup to restore constitutional order without delay and protect all lives and property”.the statement said.
