In a historic attempt that has captured national attention, Nigerian journalist Livinus Chibuike Victor is set to break the Guinness World Record for the longest interview marathon,as he is completing a gruelling 72 hours and 30 minutes of nonstop interviews in Abuja. The record-breaking feat, which is ongoing at Harrow Park Golf Club, began on Friday, April 17, will be concluding in the early hours of Sunday, April 20, 2025.
Holding under the theme “Nigeria Our Strength,” the marathon featured a continuous stream of interviews with over a hundred guests, including civic leaders, professionals, activists, and everyday Nigerians. The event aimed to promote press freedom and underscore the importance of free speech and independent journalism in Nigeria’s democracy.
Livinus, a respected and passionate media practitioner, undertook the challenge to surpass the current world record of 55 hours and 24 seconds set by fellow Nigerian Clara Chizoba Kronborg in Marbella, Spain, in March 2024. His new mark pending Guinness World Records’ official verification exceeds the previous benchmark by more than 17 hours.
“This is not just a personal milestone,” Livinus stated. “It’s a statement about the resilience of journalists and the essential role we play in building informed societies. Press freedom is the cornerstone of any democracy.”
A team of medical professionals monitored Livinus throughout the marathon, ensuring he remained physically and mentally fit during the intense sessions. Supporters, friends, and members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), including the FCT Council Chairperson Grace Ike, were present to cheer him on. “Livinus has done something extraordinary,” Ike said. “His commitment is a shining example of what journalism can do.”
Livinus has long been an advocate for responsible media, mentorship, and public accountability. With this feat, he hopes to inspire young journalists and renew conversations around media safety and press freedom in Nigeria.
While the world awaits official confirmation from Guinness World Records, Livinus Chibuike Victor’s courageous effort has already earned him a place in the hearts of many as a symbol of dedication, resilience, and the unyielding spirit of Nigerian journalism.
