The Armed forces of Nigeria have maintained momentum in nationwide counter-terrorism and anti-crime operations, neutralized dozens of insurgents, rescued kidnapped victims, and dismantled criminal networks across multiple theatres between 7 and 14 August 2025.
Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Markus Kangye, stated this during the weekly press briefing at Defence Headquarters, Abuja. He explained that the combined efforts of ground and air forces, working alongside hybrid forces and other security agencies, have continued to degrade terrorist capabilities, disrupt banditry, and curb oil theft across the country.
In the North East, troops under Operation Hadin Kai operating in Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe States eliminated scores of Boko Haram, ISWAP, and JAS terrorists. Thirty-seven suspects were arrested, while five kidnapped victims were rescued during a series of raids, ambushes, and patrols that also led to the recovery of arms, ammunition, logistics supplies, and improvised explosive devices.
In the North West theatre, troops of Operation Fasan Yamma intensified offensive operations in Katsina, Sokoto, Zamfara, Kebbi, and Kaduna States, killing several terrorists, arrested eleven, and rescued seventeen kidnapped victims. More terrorists were neutralized during separate engagements in Sokoto State.
Troops in the North Central region, under Operations Safe Haven and Whirl Stroke, also recorded significant achievements. Armed elements were neutralized in Plateau, Kaduna, and Bauchi States, while four criminals were arrested and six kidnapped victims freed. A gunrunner concealing an AK-47 rifle in a sack of animal feed was intercepted in Kaduna State. In Benue, Taraba, Kogi, and the Federal Capital Territory, troops arrested thirteen suspects, rescued nine victims, and apprehended two notorious gunrunners.
In the South-South, troops under Operation Delta Safe thwarted oil theft valued at over ₦37.5 million, seized thousands of litres of stolen crude oil, illegally refined diesel, and petrol. Several illegal refining sites were destroyed, and thirty-four suspects involved in oil theft, cultism, kidnapping, and other crimes were arrested.
Meanwhile, in the South East, troops of Operation Udo Ka sustained their offensive posture in Imo, Anambra, and Ebonyi States, killed armed elements, arrested six suspected IPOB/ESN members and a kidnapper, and recovering weapons, ammunition, and a vehicle.
Major General Kangye reaffirmed that the Armed Forces, in concert with other security stakeholders, will continue to sustain the operational tempo until peace and stability are restored to all troubled parts of the country.
