The Nigerian Naval College (NNC), Ebubu-Eleme, Rivers State, on Saturday, 17th May 2025, held a spectacular Beating Retreat and Ceremonial Sunset to commemorate the completion of training by cadets of the Direct Short Service Commission 29 (DSSC 29) and Special Duty Pre-Commissioning Training 2024 (SDPCT 24).
The event, rich in naval tradition and military pageantry, marked the end of a rigorous training phase and celebrated the cadets’ readiness to be commissioned into active service.
In his remarks, the Commandant of the Nigerian Naval College, Rear Admiral H.S. Zego, emphasized the importance of the occasion, described it as a symbolic transition from training to operational duties. He expressed appreciation to the Flag Officer Commanding Naval Training Command, Rear Admiral I.M. Albara, for his steadfast leadership, and commended the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, for providing the essential resources and guidance that ensured the success of the training programmes.
The Special Guest of Honour, Flag Officer Commanding Central Naval Command, Rear Admiral A.A. Gaya, congratulated the cadets on their achievements and encouraged them to embody the core values of the Nigerian Armed Forces: loyalty, courage, integrity, and selfless service.
The evening’s highlights included the ceremonial lowering of the national flag during the Ceremonial Sunset and the traditional Bonfire, symbolizing the end of training and the beginning of a new chapter in naval service.
Dignitaries, families of cadets, and members of the local community witnessed the ceremony, which reflected the discipline, coordination, and esprit de corps that define the Nigerian Navy.
