The Nigerian Navy (NN) on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, commissioned a fully furnished four-classroom block at Orhueren Central School, Ozalla Community, Owan West Local Government Area of Edo State, as part of its efforts to promote educational development and strengthen civil-military relations.
The project was executed under the Chief of the Naval Staff Special Quick Impact Project (CNS-SQIP) in honour of Rear Admiral James Ohimai Okosun. It forms part of the Navy’s broader strategy to support host communities and enhance social development through people-centred interventions.
The Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas (Admiralty Medal), who was represented by the Flag Officer Commanding Logistics Command, Rear Admiral Abiodun Alade, said the project aligns with the vision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to advance the Nigerian Navy’s reinvigorated Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) mandate and support the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Rear Admiral Alade noted that the initiative reflects the Navy’s commitment to honouring distinguished officers while contributing to national growth through humanitarian projects. He described the classroom block as another milestone in the NN’s CIMIC engagements and urged beneficiaries to maintain and utilise the facility responsibly.
In his remarks, the Project Facilitator, Rear Admiral Okosun, said the intervention represents the Navy’s non-kinetic approach to addressing insecurity by fostering cordial relations with host communities through education and development.
Goodwill messages were delivered by community leaders and traditional rulers, who commended the Nigerian Navy for its developmental impact in Ozalla. Residents and other stakeholders also expressed appreciation for the project, describing it as a major boost to learning and social progress in the area.
The commissioning underscored the Nigerian Navy’s continued commitment to nation-building through strategic community engagement and sustainable development initiatives.
