In a significant stride toward enhancing basic education and strengthening civil-military relations, the Nigerian Navy has commissioned multiple Special Intervention Quick Impact Projects at Waziri Lawal LEA Primary School, Zaria.
The Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, commissioned the projects facilitated by Rear Admiral Mohammed Miftah Abdullahi. The projects included the renovation and furnishing of classrooms, construction of an administrative block, four blocks of toilets, and a mechanized solar-powered borehole.
In his remarks, Rear Admiral Abdullahi expressed heartfelt gratitude to the CNS for approving the project, which he described as “life-changing” and a demonstration of the Navy’s commitment to community development. He emphasized that the intervention would help create a more conducive learning environment and reduce the number of out-of-school children in the community.
Vice Admiral Ogalla praised Rear Admiral Abdullahi’s commitment to educational development, noting that the projects reflected the Navy’s broader vision under its civil-military cooperation framework. “This initiative is part of the Nigerian Navy’s contribution to national development and the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda,” he said.
He added that the Quick Impact Projects serve a dual purpose addressing community needs and honouring distinguished senior officers of the Nigerian Navy. He also encouraged the staff and pupils of the school to maintain the facilities to ensure their sustainability.
The Emir of Zazzau, His Highness Ambassador Ahmad Nuhu Bamalli, commended the Nigerian Navy for its strategic investment in education and expressed appreciation to Rear Admiral Abdullahi for bringing development home.
Also speaking, the Headteacher of the school, Mrs. Fatima Aliyu, lauded the Navy’s gesture, noted that the intervention would significantly impact the academic performance and welfare of the pupils.
This commissioning marked the second such intervention in Zaria within five months, following the commissioning of a primary healthcare centre in Samaru in December 2024, further underlining the Navy’s growing footprint in community development efforts across the country.
