The Nigerian Navy has commissioned a Chief of the Naval Staff Special Intervention Quick Impact Project (CNS SQIP) in Afaraukwu, Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State, aimed at enhancing education, digital access, and community welfare.
The project, inaugurated on Wednesday, 18 February 2026, delivered renovated classrooms, a fully equipped 28-computer Information and Communication Technology (ICT) centre, a reactivated borehole, and upgraded sanitation facilities at Union Primary School. The intervention forms part of the Navy’s Civil–Military Cooperation initiatives designed to support grassroots development and strengthen relations with host communities.
The project was facilitated by Rear Admiral Chijioke Onyemaobi, reflecting the Nigerian Navy’s commitment to improving social infrastructure and contributing to the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda through impactful community-based interventions.
Representing the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, Rear Admiral Ebiobowei Zipele commended the initiative and emphasised the importance of proper maintenance to ensure sustainability of the facilities.
Community stakeholders and beneficiaries lauded the intervention, describing it as a significant boost to education, digital literacy, and civil-military relations in the area.
The commissioning underscored the Nigerian Navy’s broader role beyond maritime security, highlighting its continued investment in human capital development and community empowerment across the country.
