The Nigerian Navy on Monday, 1 December 2025, held a colourful and symbolic “Shipping of Stripes” ceremony at its Headquarters in Abuja to decorate its newly promoted Rear Admirals. The event drew top defence personalities, senior military officers, families, and well-wishers who gathered to honour the officers’ dedication and distinguished service.
The ceremony began with the reading of citations highlighting the officers’ outstanding leadership, professional excellence, and unwavering loyalty throughout their careers. Their promotion to Rear Admiral, signified by the ceremonial adornment of new ranks, was described as both a personal milestone and a reflection of the Navy’s confidence in their capacity to strengthen national security.
Speaking at the event, the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, congratulated the newly promoted officers and affirmed that their elevation was earned through merit and diligence. He charged them to regard their new ranks as an even higher call to service that requires courage, foresight, and uncompromising integrity.
Vice Admiral Abbas further urged the Admirals to remain exemplary ambassadors of the Nigerian Navy and to continue contributing to efforts aimed at enhancing maritime security, safeguarding national assets, and advancing the Navy’s strategic objectives.
The ceremony reaffirmed the Nigerian Navy’s tradition of recognising excellence and nurturing leadership as it continue to modernise and strengthen its operational capabilities.
