The Nigerian Navy has handed over five bags of seized cannabis sativa, weighing approximately 500 kilograms, to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) following a successful intelligence-led operation in Lagos.
The handover was conducted on Friday, February 20, 2026, by Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) BEECROFT to officials of the NDLEA Festac Area Command. The illicit consignment was intercepted on February 18, 2026, when the NNS BEECROFT Quick Response Team, acting on credible intelligence, stopped a van suspected of conveying illegal substances around Abule Osun in Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos State.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, the Commander of NNS BEECROFT, Commodore Aiwuyor Adams-Aliu, said the successful operation demonstrates the Navy’s sustained commitment to combating criminal activities within Nigeria’s maritime environment. He noted that the achievement aligns with the strategic leadership of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, aimed at strengthening maritime security and curbing illicit trafficking.
The commander commended the vigilance and professionalism of naval personnel involved in the operation and reaffirmed the Navy’s readiness to continue collaborating with other security agencies to safeguard the nation’s coastal corridors. He also urged members of the public to provide timely and credible information to support ongoing security operations.
The seized narcotics were formally handed over to the Deputy Commander of Narcotics, Adejumo Gbenga Ayo, for further investigation and necessary legal action.
The development highlighted growing inter-agency cooperation between security and law enforcement bodies in dismantling drug trafficking networks and promoting a safer maritime domain across Nigeria.
