The Nigerian Navy has honoured the legacy of the late Rear Admiral Musa Bello Katagum, described him as a distinguished senior officer whose contributions significantly strengthened the Service’s operational effectiveness.
In a statement issued following a series of condolence engagements, the Navy said the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, directed high-level visits to commiserate with the bereaved family and recognise the late officer’s enduring impact on naval operations. The outreach formed part of efforts to honour Rear Admiral Katagum’s service and provide institutional support to his family during their period of mourning.
As part of the engagements, the President of the Naval Officers’ Wives Association (NOWA), Mrs Aisha Idi Abbas, accompanied by members of the association, paid a condolence visit to Mrs Katagum, offered solidarity and support during the difficult time.
In a related development, the CNS, represented by the Chief of Policy and Plans at Naval Headquarters, Rear Admiral Akinola Olodude, led other Principal Staff Officers on a condolence visit to the immediate family in Abuja.
Earlier, a senior naval delegation comprising the Commandant of the National Defence College, Rear Admiral Abdullahi Ahmed; the Chief of Training, Rear Admiral Abdul-Rasheed Haruna; the Chief of Logistics, Rear Admiral Sulieman Abdullahi; and the Naval Headquarters Imam, Navy Captain Rabiu Rumah, travelled to Azare in Bauchi State to extend condolences to the extended family.
The Nigerian Navy noted that the coordinated condolence visits underscore the high esteem in which the late Rear Admiral was held, reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to honouring his legacy while standing firmly with his family in their time of bereavement.
