The Nigerian Navy has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening maritime security and deepening institutional collaboration following a courtesy visit by the Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr. Dayo Mobereola, to the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Idi Abbas.
The visit, which took place on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at the Naval Headquarters in Abuja, served as a platform for both agencies to review ongoing cooperation and reinforce strategic partnerships aimed at safeguarding Nigeria’s maritime domain.
During the meeting, Dr. Mobereola commended the Nigerian Navy for its significant contributions to national maritime security, particularly its critical role in supporting the Deep Blue Project. He described the Navy’s efforts as central to curbing maritime crimes and enhancing safety within Nigeria’s territorial waters.
The NIMASA Director General reaffirmed his agency’s commitment to sustaining its strong relationship with the Nigerian Navy and expressed readiness to provide all necessary support to ensure the success of joint maritime initiatives. He stressed that continuous collaboration remains vital to achieving lasting security and operational efficiency in the maritime sector.
In his response, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas assured Dr. Mobereola of the Nigerian Navy’s continued support in promoting maritime safety and security. He emphasized the need to review the 2007 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two agencies to reflect current operational realities and strengthen inter-agency synergy.
The Chief of the Naval Staff also encouraged NIMASA to patronise the Naval Dockyard Limited (NDL) for vessel maintenance and repairs, noting that such cooperation would enhance operational readiness and promote indigenous technical capacity.
Vice Admiral Abbas further congratulated NIMASA on the launch of the Cabotage Vessel Financing Fund (CVFF) portal, described it as a positive step toward strengthening local shipping capacity and boosting the nation’s maritime economy.
He also solicited NIMASA’s support for the forthcoming Nigerian Navy 70th Anniversary celebrations, stressing the importance of partnership in sustaining institutional growth and national security.
The visit reaffirmed the Nigerian Navy’s resolve to work closely with NIMASA and other stakeholders to enhance maritime governance, improve security architecture, and support the sustainable development of Nigeria’s blue economy.
