The Nigerian Navy has deactivated an illegal oil refining site in Allison Community, Bonny Local Government Area, Rivers State, recovered more than 20,000 litres of crude oil suspected to be stolen.
Acting on credible intelligence, personnel from the Forward Operating Base Bonny under the Eastern Naval Command deployed an Anti-Crude Oil Theft patrol team. The team discovered the site, which included dugout pits, locally fabricated cooking and cooling systems, and sacks containing substantial quantities of crude oil products.
A further assessment confirmed over 20,000 litres of stolen crude oil stored on the premises. The perpetrators fled upon sighting the naval patrol team, while the illegal refining infrastructure and recovered products were handled according to operational protocols.
The operation was part of the Navy’s ongoing efforts under Operation DELTA SENTINEL to curb crude oil theft and economic sabotage in the Niger Delta.
Meanwhile,the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, has directed operational commanders to intensify intelligence-driven operations to safeguard the nation’s oil assets and support the Federal Government’s target of producing 2.5 million barrels of oil per day this year.
