The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has reiterated that the enrollment for the National Identification Number (NIN) remained free of charge, urged the public to be cautious of individuals demanding money for the service.
In a statement released on December 20, 2024, the NIMC emphasized that neither its staff nor its Front-End Partners (FEPs) are authorized to collect any fees from applicants. The Commission has taken a firm stance against any form of extortion, directing security agencies to track down and sanction anyone caught engaging in such illegal practices.
“The NIMC does not charge for NIN enrollment, and any staff or FEP found extorting applicants will face legal consequences, including sanctions and the revocation of licenses,” the statement read.
To safeguard applicants, the Commission has urged the public to report any cases of extortion through the designated channels: Email: [email protected] and Phone: 07002255646.
Assuring Nigerians of its continued commitment to providing seamless and accessible services, the NIMC pledged to address extortion issues and ensure a smooth enrollment process for all citizens.
