The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) engaged key technology stakeholders at the 6th edition of Lagos Tech Fest through a high-level Tech Leadership Roundtable focused on policy and governance frameworks required to responsibly scale Nigeria’s digital economy.
Represented by the National Coordinator of the Office for Nigerian Digital Innovation (ONDI), Victoria Fabunmi, NITDA participated in the panel session titled “AI Unleashed: Data, Trust & the Future of Technology in Africa.” During the discussion, the Agency outlined its approach to artificial intelligence regulation as an enabler of innovation, emphasizing collaborative policy development involving startups, researchers, innovation hubs, and private-sector players.
The session also highlighted Nigeria’s drive to strengthen indigenous AI research and talent development through initiatives such as the National Artificial Intelligence Trust, Learning and Application Strategy (N-ATLAS) and the 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) programme. These efforts align with a risk-based sovereign AI strategy that prioritises local data infrastructure, robust data protection, cybersecurity, and strategic global partnerships.
The engagement reaffirmed NITDA’s commitment to fostering collaboration, building trust, and establishing enabling governance frameworks to accelerate Nigeria’s digital transformation.
