The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has strengthened efforts to modernise Nigeria’s public service by concluding a specialised digital capacity-building programme for the Federal Character Commission (FCC), aimed at promoting data-driven governance and improved institutional efficiency.
The initiative, which included the donation of 35 laptops, is designed to transition the Commission from manual operational processes to a technology-enabled oversight system capable of enhancing transparency and ensuring equitable representation across government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
Aligned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s priority of strengthening governance and driving inclusive economic growth, the programme forms part of NITDA’s Digital Literacy for All (DL4All) initiative, which seek to build digital capacity across public institutions and equip civil servants with skills needed to advance Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda.
The training, held at the Commission’s headquarters, focused on improving participants’ competencies in data analysis and data management—critical tools for effective monitoring, reporting and service delivery.
Representing NITDA’s Director-General, Kashifu Inuwa, the Acting Director of Digital Literacy and Capacity Building, Dr. Ahmed Yusuf Tambour, said the intervention was tailored to support the Commission’s statutory mandate.
“We are here at the Federal Character Commission to carry out training for staff in digital literacy to enhance their proficiency,” he stated, noting that emphasis was placed on data analysis and management because of its direct relevance to the Commission’s core responsibilities.
The FCC, tasked with ensuring fair representation in public service appointments nationwide, depends heavily on accurate and properly managed datasets to execute its oversight functions. Strengthening staff capacity in digital tools is therefore expected to enhance nationwide data management and improve transparency in monitoring compliance across MDAs.
According to NITDA, 35 participants benefited from the programme, which was described as impactful and well received by attendees.
To sustain the gains of the training, the Agency also donated 35 laptops to enable continuous learning and support the seamless integration of digital tools into daily operations within the Commission.
Officials expressed optimism that the intervention would significantly improve the Commission’s ability to manage critical national data and enhance workflow efficiency.
The initiative underscored NITDA’s commitment to deepening digital inclusion within government institutions under the Renewed Hope Agenda by promoting data-driven decision-making, strengthening institutional performance, and supporting the Federal Government’s vision of a modern, efficient public service capable of driving inclusive national development and economic reform.
