The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has entered full implementation mode for its 2026 initiatives, as it briefed the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Engr. Nadungu Gagare, on its strategic priorities and achievements.
The briefing session, held at the beginning of the year, was led by the Director General of NITDA, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, and provided a comprehensive overview of the agency’s evolution since its establishment in 2001. It also reaffirmed NITDA’s alignment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda through its Strategic Roadmap and Action Plan 2024–2027 (SRAP 2.0).
According to the agency, SRAP 2.0 is anchored on eight strategic pillars designed to drive inclusive economic growth, deepen digital transformation and strengthen Nigeria’s technology ecosystem.
Key milestones highlighted during the briefing included significant progress in digital literacy and talent development, particularly through the 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) programme. NITDA also reported improvements in Nigeria’s global artificial intelligence ranking, moving from 85th to 69th position, as well as the successful completion of the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy.
The agency further outlined notable policy and regulatory achievements in areas such as cloud sovereignty, data localisation, e-invoicing and cybersecurity. It disclosed ongoing collaboration with the Office of the National Security Adviser on cybersecurity initiatives, the launch of the National Digital Trust Map Portal, and continued implementation of the Nigerian Startup Act through startup labelling and ecosystem support.
Operational and financial performance also featured prominently in the engagement, with NITDA confirming compliance with all statutory and fiscal obligations and regular reporting to relevant oversight bodies.
The briefing underscored NITDA’s renewed commitment to effective execution in 2026, as it positions digital innovation as a key driver of national development.
