The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has reinforced its commitment to advancing digital literacy in Nigeria’s basic education system through strategic collaboration with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC).
The Director General of NITDA, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, today hosted UBEC Executive Secretary Aisha Garba at the Agency’s headquarters for high-level discussions on expanding digital learning initiatives nationwide.
In his remarks,Abdullahi highlighted NITDA’s commitment to integrating digital literacy beyond teacher training, emphasizing direct engagement with students and the use of artificial intelligence and data analytics to monitor programme impact, track teacher reach, and generate reliable data on schools and learners.
He reaffirmed NITDA’s dedication to supporting the Federal Government’s digital literacy targets, aiming for 70 percent nationwide coverage by 2027 and 95 percent by 2030. According to Abdullahi, strategic partnership with UBEC will be critical in accelerating the reach and effectiveness of these initiatives across the country.
The meeting also reviewed the deployment and optimal use of NITDA’s digital infrastructure, including over 1,500 digital learning centres nationwide, ensuring that students have access to essential digital tools and services.
The DG assured NITDA remained steadfast in its mission to deliver inclusive, sustainable, and future-ready digital education, leveraging partnerships to ensure every Nigerian child benefits from technology-driven learning opportunities.
