The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), in collaboration with the House of Representatives Spouses Association (HORSA), has launched a two-day workshop aimed at empowering spouses of lawmakers with digital literacy and capacity-building skills.
The workshop, themed “Empowering Women for Digital Future: Leadership, Wellbeing and Opportunity,” is designed to equip participants with essential digital competencies needed to thrive in today’s technology-driven economy, while also promoting online safety, mental wellbeing, and leadership development.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, NITDA Director-General, Kashifu Inuwa, said the initiative reflected the agency’s commitment to advancing digital literacy and accelerating Nigeria’s transition to a sustainable digital economy.
He emphasised that digital inclusion remains central to national development efforts, noting that the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu prioritises digitalisation and innovation as key drivers of economic diversification and inclusive growth.
According to him, the programme is structured to ensure that women, particularly those in leadership support roles, are not excluded from emerging digital opportunities due to skills gaps.
The workshop featured training sessions on digital tools, cybersecurity awareness, leadership strategies, and personal wellbeing, providing participants with practical knowledge to enhance productivity and community impact.
Organisers said the initiative formed part of broader efforts to deepen digital awareness across different segments of society and empower women to actively participate in Nigeria’s evolving digital ecosystem.
