The Director General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, has called for deliberate and sustained investments in digital infrastructure, skills development, innovation, and governance as critical drivers of prosperity in the digital age.
Delivering a keynote address at the Ondo Investment Summit through his representative, Dr. Ayodeji Eniola, the NITDA boss emphasised that Nigeria’s economic future depends on how effectively governments and stakeholders embrace digital transformation.
He reaffirmed the Agency’s mandate to ensure that every state, community, and citizen participates meaningfully in Nigeria’s digital economy, noting that NITDA is pursuing an ambitious target of achieving 95 per cent digital literacy nationwide by 2030. According to him, the initiative is designed to equip young Nigerians not only with the ability to use technology but also to create innovative digital solutions.
Abdullahi highlighted key national frameworks supporting the digital economy, including the Nigeria Startup Act and NITDA’s Strategic Roadmap and Action Plan (SRAP 2.0), alongside flagship platforms such as Digital Nigeria and GITEX Nigeria, which he described as gateways connecting Nigerian innovators and businesses to global investors, partners, and markets.
He urged Ondo State to take advantage of emerging digital opportunities through sustained investment in infrastructure, innovation hubs, and digital skills development, noting that such efforts would unlock new industries, attract foreign direct investment, generate sustainable employment, and promote inclusive economic growth.
The NITDA Director General further called on investors, innovators, and government leaders to strengthen collaboration in positioning Ondo State as a leading digital investment destination and innovation hub in Nigeria and across Africa.
He stressed that embracing the digital economy is no longer optional but a strategic pathway toward long-term prosperity and improved livelihoods for citizens.
