As part of activities marking International Women’s Day, the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), in collaboration with Women in Cybersecurity (WiCyS), organised a Cyber for Women Training themed “Empowering Women in Cybersecurity” at Novare Central Mall, Abuja.
The initiative underscored NITDA’s commitment to bridging the gender gap in Nigeria’s cybersecurity ecosystem by equipping more women with the skills and knowledge required to participate in the fast-growing digital security sector.
Delivering a keynote address on behalf of the Director-General of NITDA, Kashifu Inuwa, Dr. Ayodele Bakare emphasised that cybersecurity remained a critical pillar of Nigeria’s digital future.
Bakare highlighted the importance of expanding opportunities for women in the field, noting that empowering women with cybersecurity skills will not only advance gender inclusion but also strengthen innovation and resilience within the nation’s digital space.
He explained that increasing women’s participation in cybersecurity contributes significantly to building a safer and more secure digital environment for individuals, businesses and government institutions.
The training brought together aspiring female cybersecurity professionals, technology enthusiasts and industry stakeholders for knowledge sharing, mentorship and practical exposure aimed at building capacity and confidence among women interested in pursuing careers in cybersecurity.
The organisers noted that initiatives such as the Cyber for Women Training are essential to fostering diversity, promoting digital inclusion and ensuring that women play a leading role in safeguarding Nigeria’s digital ecosystem.
