The Niger State Government has dismissed claims of a disagreement between the Ministry of Sports Development and the Niger State Sports Commission, described such reports as false, misleading, and unfounded.
Mr. Obed Nuhu Nana, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, clarified the matter during a courtesy visit by online journalists to his office. He emphasized that both institutions are working in harmony under the New Niger Agenda Governor Umar Mohammed Bago, to strengthen sports development in the state.
According to the Commissioner, the coexistence of the Ministry and the Sports Commission is a deliberate strategy by the Governor aimed at enhancing visibility, efficiency, and sustainable growth in sports. He explained that while the Ministry of Sports Development handles policy formulation, strategic planning, and oversight, the Niger State Sports Commission focuses on implementation, athlete development, and grassroots sports programs.
“This clear delineation of roles is meant to foster collaboration, efficiency, and institutional synergy rather than rivalry. The Governor’s decision is intentional and strategic. There is no friction whatsoever. Both bodies are complementing each other effectively to position Niger State as a major hub for sports development,” Mr. Nana said.
He also reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to using sports as a tool for youth empowerment, social cohesion, and economic growth, noted that the collaboration between the Ministry and the Commission is already producing measurable positive outcomes.
The Commissioner urged the public to disregard rumours and instead support government initiatives aimed at promoting sports excellence and projecting Niger State on both national and international stages. He added that the government remains committed to transparent communication, responsible information management, and the use of digital strategies to counter misinformation and strengthen public trust.
