The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has hailed the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) for its rare show of transparency and accountability in addressing issues that arose during the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the NOA described JAMB’s open acknowledgment of its lapses as a commendable act of leadership that reflects a strong sense of institutional responsibility.
The Director General of NOA, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, praised JAMB Registrar, Professor Is-haq Oloyede, for his integrity and courage in handling the situation. He said the Registrar’s forthrightness not only mirrors his personal values but also aligns with the National Values Charter (NVC), which mandates all public institutions to maintain the highest standards of transparency and accountability.
“JAMB’s example should serve as a model for other public institutions. When institutions own their mistakes and act to correct them, they earn the respect and confidence of the people,” Mallam Onilu said.
While commending JAMB’s decision to offer affected candidates another chance, the NOA boss stressed the need for further action to alleviate the stress experienced by candidates and their families.
“Acknowledging mistakes is the first step, but restitution is also crucial. It is imperative that JAMB considers appropriate compensation to mitigate the stress and anxiety the candidates may have suffered,” he stated.
Mallam Onilu reaffirmed the NOA’s commitment to promoting responsible leadership and fostering a value-driven society. He emphasized that integrity, accountability, and transparency core elements of the National Values Charter must be upheld by all citizens and institutions alike.
He further noted that the NOA would continue its advocacy for ethical governance and active citizenship as Nigeria works towards building a just, inclusive, and responsible nation.
