NOA launches Nationwide Campaign on Tax Reforms,National Development

The National Orientation Agency NOA today unveiled a nationwide sensitization campaign aimed at tackling key issues affecting Nigeria’s growth and development. Themed “Promoting Awareness, Ethical Values, and National Development,” the initiative seek to educate citizens on tax reforms, public health, security awareness, and ethical values while fostering unity and collective action.

Speaking at the event, NOA Director-General, Mallam Lanre Isa-Onilu, represented by Mrs. Agbanusi Ijeoma, emphasized the need for a more informed and ethical society to drive sustainable development.

At the heart of the campaign were sweeping tax reforms designed to simplify processes, ensure fairness, and boost national revenue for tangible development.

Four key legislative bills form the backbone of these reforms:

– A consolidated tax bill that simplifies Nigeria’s tax system by repealing outdated laws.

– New guidelines for efficient tax collection to eliminate double taxation and promote accountability.

– Policies to harmonize tax administration across all levels of government.

– Measures to reduce the burden on low-income earners, ensuring fair contributions from all sectors.

These reforms aimed to provide a more transparent tax system while making it easier for citizens to comply through digital platforms.

The campaign also targeted other critical areas, including:

Public Health: Advocating for free HIV/AIDS testing, treatment access, and fighting stigma.

Security Awareness: Promoting collaboration with law enforcement, vigilance, and rejecting fraudulent schemes.

Ethical Values: Addressing the “Get-Rich-Quick Syndrome” by encouraging integrity and ethical conduct, especially during the festive season.

Human Rights: Raising awareness of citizens’ rights and responsibilities as part of World Human Rights Day activities.

At the event NOA also emphasized the importance of collaboration among traditional rulers, religious groups, civil society organizations, and the media to amplify campaign messages and reach a wider audience.

Mrs. Rhoda Sadus, a Deputy Director at NOA, described Nigeria’s population as its greatest asset, urged citizens to actively contribute to the nation’s progress.

“When measuring a nation’s strength, its people come first, not its natural resources,” she said, highlighting the need for unity, accountability, and a shared commitment to national development.

This nationwide initiative underscored the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu led Government resolve to build a healthier, safer, and more ethical Nigeria.
