The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Nigeria’s former President, Muhammadu Buhari, described him as a leader who left an indelible mark on the nation’s political and moral fabric.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Director General of NOA, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, said the agency fully aligned with the directive of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu that the national flag be flown at half-mast for seven days as a mark of respect. He affirmed that the NOA will monitor and ensure compliance with the directive across all public institutions nationwide.
The NOA also called on private organisations and citizens to join in this solemn act of national mourning, describing it as a symbolic tribute to the late former President’s legacy.
“This moment of national loss calls for reflection and recognition of a man who served Nigeria with conviction, courage, and a deep commitment to integrity,” the statement noted. “President Buhari’s tenure, both as a military and civilian leader, was underscored by a vision for national renewal, anti-corruption, and the strengthening of institutions.”
The Agency encouraged all Nigerians to go beyond symbolic gestures by embracing the ideals of patriotism, discipline, and service values which defined the life and leadership of the late President.
“As we lower our flags, may we lift up our shared hopes for a stronger and more united Nigeria,” the statement concluded.
