The Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Mallam Shehu Dikko, has commended Waldorf Knoll for its well-organized inter-house sports event, describing it as a crucial platform for discovering and nurturing young talents across Nigeria. He noted that the initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision for grassroots sports development.
Speaking as the chairman of the event, Dikko praised the school’s commitment to sports, emphasizing that such programs create opportunities for identifying emerging athletes. He assured Waldorf Knoll of the Commission’s continuous support to further enhance the initiative.
“This inter-house sports event directly aligns with our objectives. I have been attending it even before my appointment as NSC Chairman, so it is something very dear to my heart. I am not just here for the fun of it. I will use my position to elevate it, improve its impact, and advocate for stronger support in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s grassroots sports development agenda,” Dikko stated.
He further revealed that the NSC has partnered with the Federal Ministry of Education to strengthen talent identification in schools and higher institutions.
“We recently held a meeting with vice-chancellors, directors, and provosts to refocus attention on sports. The impact is already visible. For instance, the University of Jos has officially positioned itself as the Center of Excellence for the North Central region and is now working towards establishing national sports degree programs. These efforts will align with international standards and foster stronger collaborations with global sports institutions,” he added.
