The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has mourned the passing of the Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland, His Royal Majesty, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, described his death as a monumental loss to the entire Muslim Ummah in Nigeria.
In a condolence message signed by the Secretary-General of the Council, Professor Is-haq O. Oloyede, the NSCIA expressed deep grief but total submission to the will of Almighty Allah over the monarch’s demise.
Oba Adetona, until his death, was the Chairman of the Ogun State Muslim Council (OMC), a state affiliate of the NSCIA. The Council extolled his immense contributions to the growth and unity of the Muslim community in Ogun State and across the nation.
“The death of Oba Adetona is not only a loss to the government, people, and the Muslim community of Ogun State, it is indeed a loss to the entire Muslim Ummah in Nigeria,” the statement read.
NSCIA further described the monarch’s long reign as one marked by exemplary leadership, unwavering religious devotion, and deep commitment to peacebuilding and noble causes.
“His long reign was not just a chapter in the history of Ijebu; it was a volume of impressive royalty, religious devotion, and service to humanity. He was a national figure whose wisdom and counsel were highly sought after, including within the Council,” the statement added.
The Council commiserated with the royal family, the Ìjẹ̀bú people worldwide, the government and people of Ogun State, the Ogun State Muslim Community and Council, and the Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria (MUSWEN).
NSCIA prayed to Almighty Allah to overlook the shortcomings of the late monarch, expand his grave, and grant him Aljannah Firdaos.
