The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has announced the postponement of the highly anticipated Nigerian Quran Convention, initially planned to accommodate 60,000 participants, due to an overwhelming response and increased international interest.
In an official statement signed by Prof. Is-haq O. Oloyede, on behalf of His Eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto & President-General of NSCIA, the council disclosed that the event had received over 500,000 expressions of interest and accreditation requests far exceeding initial projections.
The convention, designed to be a historic gathering of scholars, Huffaz (Quran memorisers), and participants from across Nigeria and beyond, has also attracted renowned international scholars and foreign delegations eager to be part of the momentous occasion.
Given the large-scale interest, the NSCIA emphasized the need for better planning and logistics to accommodate the surge in attendance. The statement noted that rescheduling the convention will allow for venue expansion, refined logistics, and an improved experience for all attendees.
“This delay will allow us to refine the logistics, expand the venue, and create an even more memorable experience for all attendees,” the statement read.
The council assured that a new date will be announced after Ramadan, emphasizing its commitment to delivering a well-organized and spiritually enriching convention.
NSCIA therefore expressed gratitude to all intending participants for their patience, understanding, and unwavering support, praying for Allah’s blessings and guidance in making the convention a success.
