The Chairperson of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, Comrade Grace Ike, has been conferred with the Excellence in Media Leadership and Advocacy Award by the School of Communications and Media Studies, Learn To Live Business School UK (LLBSUK).
The recognition was a major highlight of the school’s 2025 Post-Graduate Awards Ceremony, which celebrated graduating students from Cohort 1 and Cohort 2.
The event, which drew media scholars, practitioners, and families of the graduands, saw outstanding participants such as Funmilayo Evelyn Akintola, Gloria Ikiba, Arith, Yecenu Joyce Sasetu, and others receive certificates after completing the intensive academic programme.
Presenting the award, former Director-General of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) and Chairman of AFIA Television, Chief Emeka Mba, described Comrade Ike as “a trailblazer in media leadership whose work continues to shape national discourse.”
He said her longstanding advocacy, mentorship efforts, and firm defence of press freedom have made her a respected voice in Nigeria’s media landscape.
“This award recognises Comrade Grace Ike as an exemplary leader advancing ethical journalism, free expression, and responsible media practice,” he stated.
In her remarks, Comrade Ike expressed deep appreciation for the honour, describing it as both inspiring and humbling. She said the recognition strengthens her resolve to contribute more meaningfully to media reform and national development.
“Strategic communication remains pivotal to our nation-building efforts. We must continue to refine how we tell our stories and engage the public,” she said.
Reaffirming her commitment to responsible journalism, she added, “I will continue to encourage narratives that rebuild public confidence in the media and inspire others to tell stories that strengthen public trust.”
The ceremony concluded with certificate presentations, group photographs, and networking sessions among academics, media professionals, and industry stakeholders.
