The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, in partnership with the China Cultural Centre in Nigeria, has announced that the 7th Nigeria–China Friendship Table Tennis Tournament will hold on November 15, 2025.
The announcement was made during a courtesy visit by the NUJ FCT Chairman, Comrade Grace Ike, and her executive team to the China Cultural Centre in Abuja. They were received by the Centre’s Director and Cultural Counsellor at the Chinese Embassy, Mr Yang Jianxing, along with senior officials.
Comrade Ike commended the Centre for its continued collaboration, highlighting years of mutual engagement in cultural exchange, training, and sporting events. She stressed the importance of creating more opportunities for cultural exchange, particularly for journalists.
“We’re here to express our gratitude and to strengthen the bonds we’ve built over time. The annual table tennis tournament and other collaborative programmes have deepened our relationship, and we look forward to expanding these efforts,” she said.
Ike also formally invited Mr Yang and his team to the upcoming NUJ FCT Press Week scheduled for July 22, 2025, at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja, and called for more involvement of the Centre in future NUJ activities.
In response, Mr Yang Jianxing appreciated the NUJ FCT’s consistent partnership and reaffirmed the Centre’s commitment to deepening Nigeria–China relations through cultural initiatives. He outlined some of the Centre’s activities, including the Spring Festival, China Tea Day, and the forthcoming China–Nigeria Cultural Festival in collaboration with Nigeria’s Ministry of Arts, Culture, and Creative Economy.
Yang confirmed that preparations for the 7th Table Tennis Tournament were in top gear and assured that NUJ FCT members would be given consideration for upcoming training opportunities in China.
“Nigeria and China are brothers and family. Through the media, our cultures and values are better understood and appreciated on both sides,” he said.
