The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, has announced with deep sorrow the passing of its former Chairman, Comrade Ndamadu Sule, who died in the early hours of Friday, November 14, 2025, after a protracted illness.
Comrade Sule, aged 74, was an erudite journalist and highly respected union leader who made notable contributions to the growth of journalism in the Federal Capital Territory and Nigeria at large. Widely admired for his dedication, integrity, and unwavering commitment to professional excellence, he carved a lasting niche for himself in the media landscape.
His remains have been laid to rest according to Islamic rites at the Masaka Muslim burial ground.
The late Comrade Sule, a native of Bassa Local Government Area of Kogi State, is survived by two wives and six children.
In a statement issued by the Secretary of the NUJ FCT Council, Comrade Jide Oyekunle, the late former Chairman was described as “a great pillar of the union and a committed leader whose legacy will continue to inspire generations of journalists.”
During his tenure as Chairman of the NUJ FCT Council between 1991 and 1995, Comrade Sule was widely praised for his accountability, exceptional leadership qualities, strong defense of press freedom, and tireless advocacy for the welfare and professional development of journalists.
He served with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), and his contributions to both the union and the broader media industry remain indelible.
Reacting to the sad news, the Chairman of the NUJ FCT Council, Comrade Grace Ike, described his passing as “a painful blow to the journalism community,” noting that Sule’s wisdom, courage, and statesmanship would be sorely missed.
The Council has announced that a condolence register will be opened at the NUJ Secretariat in Utako, Abuja.
The NUJ FCT Council extended its heartfelt condolences to his family, colleagues, and all who were touched by his impactful life.
