The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council, has been thrown into mourning following the sudden death of one of its senior members, Elder Ambrose Sule Inusa, who passed away on Sunday, May 4, 2025.
The respected journalist and unionist reportedly died while being rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Gwarinpa, Abuja, after a brief illness. His passing came just a day before his 70th birthday, which would have been marked today, May 5, 2025.
In a statement signed by the Secretary of Council, Comrade Jide Oyekunle, the NUJ FCT Council described Elder Sule as a committed veteran, a pillar of the union, and a journalist whose legacy of integrity, diligence, and humility left an indelible mark on the profession.
“Elder Sule was not just a professional colleague, but a dependable friend to many. His sense of duty, kindness, and unwavering commitment to the union made him a guiding light within the NUJ family. His death is a huge loss to the Council and the journalism profession at large,” the statement read.
Elder Sule began his journalism career with the Nigerian Observer Newspaper and later served as Chief Press Secretary to the then Minister of Information during the Second Republic, Alhaji Garba Wushishi. He also served the union diligently as a former Chairman of the NUJ FCT Press Centre Management Committee.
Until his death, he was the publisher of Nigerian Environment Newspaper and Chief Executive Officer of FirstAll Online Media.
The NUJ FCT Council expressed deep regret that Elder Sule passed on at a time when the newly inaugurated executive had finalized a comprehensive welfare and healthcare policy for veteran journalists and senior members of the union.
“His calm demeanor, modesty, and readiness to serve were inspiring. He was a peacemaker and a bridge-builder who upheld the values that define us as a union,” the Council stated.
Elder Sule, a native of Apana in Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State, is survived by his wife and five children.
The NUJ FCT Council extended its heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and all who were touched by his life and prayed that God grants them the strength to bear the loss.
