The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has been honoured with the prestigious “Best Crime Fighter – Man of the Year 2025” award by the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Federal Capital Territory Council.
The honour was conferred during the FCT Press Week Lecture and Awards Ceremony held on Monday, July 22, 2025, at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja. The event, themed “Journalism in a Changing World: Press Freedom, Media, Democracy and Society,” brought together stakeholders in media, security, and governance.
According to the NUJ FCT Council, CP Orutugu was selected in recognition of his outstanding leadership, strategic crime fighting initiatives, and commitment to community safety across Anambra State. Since assuming office, the CP has led the Command to notable achievements in reducing violent crimes, dismantling criminal syndicates, strengthening community policing, and deepening collaboration with sister security agencies.
In its citation, the NUJ praised CP Orutugu’s professionalism, transparency, and steadfast commitment to the rule of law attributes that have significantly restored public confidence and improved security across the state.
While receiving the award, CP Orutugu dedicated the honour to the gallant officers and men of the Anambra State Police Command. He reaffirmed his commitment to sustaining efforts towards ensuring the safety of all residents and visitors in the state.
“This award is not just a personal recognition but a tribute to the collective dedication and sacrifices of our officers. We remain resolute in our duty to protect lives and property,” CP Orutugu stated.
The award presentation was graced by high-ranking dignitaries including the Inspector General of Police, represented by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi; the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 7, represented by ACP Odugbesan O.; and other senior officers and stakeholders.
The Anambra State Police Command, through its spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga, expressed appreciation to the NUJ FCT Council for the honour, assured continued dedication to professional, responsive, and accountable policing.
