The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council, has announced the passing of a former Chairman of the Council, Mallam Suleiman Muhammed Kaura.
The sad development was disclosed in a statement issued by the Secretary of the Council, Comrade Jide Oyekunle, on Saturday in Abuja.
Mallam Kaura, a retired Controller of News and Current Affairs at the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Kaduna, died on Friday, January 16, 2026, at the Barau Diko Teaching Hospital, Kaduna, after a brief illness.
During his illustrious career in journalism, the late Kaura served as Bureau Chief of FRCN Kaduna in Abuja, where he covered major national beats, including the National Assembly. He was widely admired for his professionalism, commitment to duty, and passion for mentoring younger journalists.
The NUJ FCT Council described his death as a painful and irreparable loss, not only to the union but to the Nigerian media industry at large, noted that his contributions to journalism and unionism would be long remembered.
The Council prayed that Almighty Allah forgives his shortcomings and grants him eternal rest in Al-Jannatul Firdausi.
It also prayed that God grants his family, friends, colleagues, and loved ones the strength and fortitude to bear the loss.
