Comrade Clement C. Nwabuko has been re-elected Chairman of the National Assembly New Media Forum (NANMF) for another two-year term, pledged to prioritise members’ welfare, professionalism and institutional development.
He was returned unopposed at the Forum’s election held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, reflecting members’ confidence in his leadership and vision for the organisation.
The election process was overseen by the Credentials Committee chaired by Emmanuel Ovuakporie, while the Secretary of the Committee, Comrade Lukman Laleye Babalola, announced the winners.
The inauguration of the newly elected Executive Committee was performed by the Deputy Director, Sergeant-at-Arms, National Assembly, Mr. Adedeji Alabi, who represented the Sergeant-at-Arms.
In his acceptance speech, Nwabuko described his re-election as a collective mandate and a renewed call to service. He thanked members for their support and commended the Electoral Committee for conducting what he termed a credible, transparent and unbiased election process.
He also appreciated the immediate past Executive Committee for their dedication, acknowledging the challenges encountered and milestones achieved during the previous tenure.
The chairman assured members that the new Executive Committee would consolidate on existing gains, address identified gaps and intensify capacity-building programmes. He noted that efforts would be made to strengthen the Forum’s institutional presence, including securing office accommodation and enhancing professional relevance.
According to him, members’ welfare and professional development would remain central to the administration’s agenda, stressing that a motivated and well-supported membership was essential to the effectiveness of the Forum.
Nwabuko announced plans to fast-track the completion of the Forum’s bye-law to provide a clear regulatory framework for accountability and sustainable growth. To promote discipline and responsible conduct, he unveiled the immediate constitution of an Ombudsman Committee to handle cases of misconduct, abuse of privileges and internal disputes.
The committee is chaired by Nelson Ogbu, with Joy Odor as Secretary, while Kassem Omomia, Emmanuel Ovuakpore and Anderson Osiebe serve as members.
Emphasising the importance of professionalism, the chairman urged members without the requisite journalistic certifications to upgrade their qualifications, described professional standards as non-negotiable.
He further announced the establishment of a Membership Admission Screening Committee (MASC) to ensure that only qualified and ethically sound journalists are admitted into the Forum. The committee is chaired by Moses Idika, with Babalola Lukman as Vice Chairman and Mercy Gadia as Secretary.
Nwabuko said the appointments take immediate effect and will be ratified at the next Congress. He also directed the Electoral Committee to conduct bye-elections for vacant executive positions within 30 days to enable the Executive Committee to operate at full capacity.
Calling for unity after the elections, he stressed that there was “no victor and no vanquished,” urged members to put aside differences and work collectively for the progress of the Forum. He assured members that the leadership remains open to new ideas, constructive criticism and meaningful contributions.
He expressed confidence that the Forum would emerge stronger, more united and more impactful under the new administration.
Other elected members of the Executive Committee included Nancy Okafor (Vice Chairman, Senate), Prevail Inegbenosa (General Secretary), Mercy Gadia (Assistant Secretary), Glory Okon (Treasurer) and Adebola Alesinloye (Financial Secretary).
