The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has confirmed the death of a female corps member in Abeokuta, Ogun State, in an incident that has sparked public concern following reports of alleged staff involvement.
The case, which reportedly occurred under unclear circumstances, gained attention after claims surfaced that a staff member of the Scheme may have been linked to the incident. The development prompted swift intervention by security agencies, leading to the arrest of the suspect now in custody as investigations continue.
Confirming the development, the NYSC Director of Information and Public Relations, Caroline Embu, said the Scheme was deeply saddened by the loss and is fully cooperating with law enforcement authorities to uncover the truth.
She noted that the management had zero tolerance for misconduct, emphasized that any staff found culpable would face the full weight of the law.
“We urge the public to refrain from speculation and allow due process to take its course,” she said, while assuring that the welfare, safety, and dignity of corps members remain a top priority.
The NYSC also extended its heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased, prayed for the peaceful repose of her soul.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
