The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig. General Olakunle Nafiu, has commended Corps members for their dedication and diligence in the service of the nation.
Nafiu gave the commendation while addressing Corps members in Owerri, the capital of Imo State, during a working visit to the state.
The NYSC helmsman particularly praised the Corps members for their commitment at their various places of primary assignment, noting that they had continued to demonstrate discipline, responsibility and loyalty to the ideals of the Scheme.
He also applauded those actively involved in Community Development Service (CDS), described their efforts as worthy of recognition.
“Those of you who are diligently participating in CDS activities deserve commendation for representing your families, your institutions, your states of origin and indeed Nigeria with pride,” he said.
The Director-General reminded the Corps members that national service requires a deeper understanding of the values embedded in the NYSC anthem, stressing that the Scheme remains committed to grooming young Nigerian graduates for future leadership.
According to him, the service year provides a platform for Corps members to develop essential life and workplace skills.
“We are equipping you with vital skills such as financial management, time management, resource management and relationship management.
“You are also being introduced to key aspects of human resource management that will be useful throughout your careers,” Nafiu said.
Earlier in his remarks, the Imo State Coordinator of the Scheme, Evans Okwor, expressed appreciation to the Director-General for the visit.
Okwor noted that the visit would further strengthen ongoing advocacy efforts aimed at securing the rehabilitation of the NYSC Orientation Camp as well as improved office accommodation for the Scheme’s State Secretariat.
