The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu, today celebrated his birthday alongside some Corps Members at the NYSC FCT Orientation Camp, Kubwa, Abuja.
The celebrants, who share the same birth period with the DG, included Onoja Dorcas (FC/25A/1642), Enugu Judith (FC/25A/1299), Egba Kingsley Nnamdi (FC/25A/1140), Achunmwande Brandy (FC/25A/2507), Boluwatife Oladapo Ogedengbe (FC/25A/1088), Kwayama D. Sharon (FC/25A/3461), and Agbo Ojobo Ambrose (FC/25A/1338).
General Nafiu, who was also part of the dignitaries that witnessed the swearing-in ceremony of the 4,070 Corps Members deployed to the FCT, urged them to approach their national service year with dedication and patriotism.
He encouraged the Corps Members to quickly adapt to camp life and take advantage of all Orientation activities designed to prepare them for the service year.
“As you embark on this three-week Orientation journey, I want you to make discipline your watchword and foster friendships across the diverse geo-political zones of the country,” General Nafiu charged.
Welcoming the new Corps Members, the NYSC FCT Coordinator, Mr. Samson Ateli, commended them for answering the call to serve the nation, highlighting the Scheme’s enduring role in promoting national unity, socio-economic development, and youth empowerment.
He also expressed appreciation to the FCT Administration for its continued support to the NYSC, particularly for the ongoing reconstruction and renovation work at the Orientation Camp.
Declaring the Orientation Course open, the Minister of State for the FCT, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Youth and Sports Development Secretariat, Mrs. Nancy Sebastian Nathan, described the one-year national service as a life-changing experience that continue to shape the future of Nigerian youth.
