The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu, has charged Corps Members to uphold the core values of the Scheme and be exemplary in the discharge of their duties throughout their service year.
General Nafiu gave the charge during his visit to the 2025 Batch ‘A’ Stream One Corps Members at the NYSC Orientation Camps in Gombe, Taraba, and Adamawa States.
He emphasized that the guiding principles of the Scheme—patriotism, integrity, efficiency, commitment, and teamwork—must be embraced by every Corps Member as a foundation for personal and national development.
“You must inculcate the spirit of patriotism. NYSC is giving you what it takes to lead, and you must lead very well. You must be ready to give back to the society by being obedient, disciplined and patriotic citizens of this country,” the DG said.
He advised the Corps Members to develop a spirit of unity and collaboration, noting that teamwork would help foster enduring relationships beyond the service year.
The NYSC helmsman also urged Corps Members to appreciate government policies and initiatives tailored to empower Nigerian youths and prepare them for leadership roles.
He warned against absenteeism during monthly biometric clearance, stating that any defaulter risks a service year extension or outright remobilization. He further cautioned against the misuse of social media, encouraging the use of digital platforms to create positive and impactful content.
In her camp report, the NYSC Gombe State Coordinator, Mrs. Chinwe Nnenna Nwachukwu, stated that a total of 1,225 Corps Members—comprising 769 males and 456 females—had been successfully integrated into camp activities, including three Camp Directors.
Similarly, the Taraba State Coordinator, Mr. Ella Aji Williams, reported the registration of 987 Corps Members made up of 620 males and 367 females, who have so far demonstrated discipline and commitment to national service.
In Adamawa, the State Coordinator, Mrs. Caroline O. Chinedu, confirmed the registration of 1,199 Corps Members—701 males and 498 females who have shown enthusiasm and readiness to contribute positively to nation-building.
