The Ogbomoso Muslim Consensus Council (OMCC) has cautioned Robitatul A’immah and its spokesperson over recent comments relating to the Office of the Chief Imam of Ogbomosoland, described the remarks as inappropriate and an intrusion into the community’s religious affairs.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the coalition which comprised Islamic scholars, elders, youth leaders, traditional stakeholders and prominent Ogbomoso indigenes at home and abroad said the warning became necessary to protect the integrity of Ogbomoso’s long-established Islamic leadership structure.
The council reaffirmed that the Office of the Chief Imam of Ogbomosoland remains a historically recognized, community-owned institution that is not subject to external supervision or influence.
“After broad consultations across all five zones of Ogbomoso, it is clear that the Chief Imamship is a fixed and community-bound position,” the council stated. “Robitatul A’immah has no supervisory authority over our imamship structures, and any attempt to distort or pressure this sacred institution will be firmly resisted.”
OMCC expressed particular displeasure over recent comments attributed to the Mudir of Markaz Agege, describing them as unnecessary, poorly considered and capable of threatening peace and distorting public understanding.
“No responsible leader should make pronouncements that mislead, distort facts or undermine respected institutions,” the council said, urging Robitatul A’immah to review its communication protocols and caution its representatives against issuing statements that could create tension.
To prevent further misunderstanding, the council outlined its expectations from the association, including an explicit clarification that it played no role in the appointment or removal of the Chief Imam of Ogbomosoland, and an immediate halt to all commentary relating to the community’s religious leadership.
OMCC stressed that the Muslims of Ogbomosoland both at home and in the diaspora remain united behind the Chief Imam,Dr.Taliat Olushina Ayilara and are fully committed to safeguarding the stability of the institution.
“Our unity is rooted in Islamic jurisprudence, historical legitimacy and community consensus,” the statement added. “Attempts to sow division or exert pressure on our institutions will not succeed.”
The council reaffirmed that the religious leadership of Ogbomosoland is not in dispute and that external interference will no longer be entertained.
