Fresh developments have linked Lawson Ogwa, a known political associate of former Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, to the recently circulated report alleged that Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, is planning a return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The controversial publication, titled “Delta Drama: Sheriff, Others Plot Return to PDP Amid Secret Talks With Wike,” sparked political speculation and unrest across the state. However, insiders have now described the report as a calculated smear campaign aimed at sowing discord and tarnishing the governor’s reputation.
A close source, who spoke under condition of anonymity, dismissed the story as fictitious, alleging it was masterminded by political opponents aligned with the former Deputy Senate President. The source further accused the group of attempting to destabilize the state’s political atmosphere through disinformation.
“The entire narrative was concocted by individuals close to Omo-Agege, using Lawson Ogwa as the hatchet man. It’s nothing more than media propaganda designed to mislead the public and create unrest,” the source claimed.
According to reports, some senior members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have privately cautioned Ogwa against promoting what they described as “falsehoods and divisive politics.”
“It is unfortunate that instead of helping Omo-Agege reposition himself as a progressive leader, his associates are resorting to blackmail and media manipulation. These tactics are clearly aimed at distracting Governor Oborevwori and undermining ongoing efforts in governance,” the source added.
Governor Oborevwori, who was elected under the PDP in 2023 after a tense legal battle with Omo-Agege, defected to the APC in April 2025 a move widely welcomed by party leaders and stakeholders within and beyond Delta State.
