I must start by admitting that I don’t love Tope Alabi less; what happened only confirmed she’s still human and has to work out her salvation continuously. However, I didn’t give the Oniduro song much thought until the controversy started and I could only concluded it’s the power of Revelation at work.
I won’t join anyone to condemn Tope Alabi as a person, other than to admit that she goofed. We need not hang her for this offense because she needs an advocate to plead her case. She has called God many names in Yoruba that can not be translated to English and we danced and worshipped God in faith with the songs. Those are her Personal revelations and we bought it.
Alaseyori encountered the Guarantor of her life, who are we to question her when it is not contrary to any scripture? If Jesus and God are one, then the Advocate, intercessor, Teacher are all describing how the Ministry of Jesus is being accomplished in our lives. Just like when Baba Adeboye started calling God Almighty “Daddy”, many where offended in the simplicity of the prayers and relationship but “Daddy” always showed up and in mighty ways. I don’t joke with personal revelations and I don’t care if no one heard it before; the fact that you’re not convinced doesn’t make me wrong
No one needs a special revelation to confirm that Alaseyori indeed encountered the Almighty Guarantor and Advocate because the way the Divine has risen to defend and pay her damages for Tope Alabi’s vituperation is astounding. What other confirmation is required more than that?
THE LESSON: The case of the Old and the young Prophets in the Bible comes to mind. Also, when Naomi Osaka defeated Serena Williams at the grand slam, she over reacted and threw tantrum; I pointed out the leadership lessons to my children at home then. Tope Alabi was throwing tantrum for the rising profile of Alaseyori but it was uncalled for. She would have gotten better commendation for public encouragement of the lady or her song. Pioneers and leaders often fall into the intimidation of someone outshining them; blocking or preventing other rising stars. Unfortunately, the blocking is not a factor before God as the elder brothers of Joseph threw him into the pit not knowing the way to the throne they dreaded was below the ground.
Whether in Ministry, Politics or anywhere, we should allow others to rise freely and if they must fall, we should never be the cause of anyone’s fall. The path to greatness is making room for others to rise as you go higher.
APOLOGY: I plead for forgiveness on Tope Alabi’s behalf (not as Oniduro) but as a fan and her brother. I think the PR technique out of this is simple public apology, no one is infallible; we’re all still growing and parts of our lives are on different levels of maturity.
