Troops of the Joint Task Force North West under Operation Fansan Yamma have dealt a significant blow to terrorist activities by destroying multiple camps around Bichi Hill in Danmusa Local Government Area (LGA) of Katsina State. The December 19, 2024, operation was initiated following credible intelligence on heightened terrorist activity in the region.
The combined ground and air assault targeted terrorist hideouts responsible for recent attacks in Danmusa, Safana, and Kankara LGAs. Precision airstrikes conducted by the Air Component destroyed identified terrorist locations during multiple passes. Surviving terrorists who attempted to regroup near Bichi Hill were engaged by ground troops in a fierce firefight that lasted several hours. The terrorists were ultimately overpowered by the troops’ superior firepower.
Air surveillance platforms tracked fleeing terrorists on motorcycles, and subsequent strikes were successfully conducted to neutralize them. Reports indicated that the operation inflicted heavy casualties on the terrorists, including the reportedly fatal injuries of two notorious kingpins, Manore and Dogo Nahalle. Additionally, several camps were destroyed, significantly crippling the operational capabilities of the terrorist group.
Before the operation, local communities such as Maidabino, Yantumaki, and Mara in Danmusa and Safana LGAs had been under constant threat, leading to mass displacements. With the destruction of these camps, the communities are expected to experience relief and a renewed sense of security.
Major General Oluyinka Olalekan Soyele, Theatre Commander of Operation Fansan Yamma, lauded the efforts of the troops and reassured the public of the military’s unwavering commitment to restoring peace in the region. He emphasized the need for public cooperation, urging residents to refrain from harboring or supporting criminal elements in any form.
While this operation is a significant milestone, the fight against terrorism in the Northwest and Niger State is far from over. The military remained resolute in its efforts to eradicate all threats and ensure the safety and well-being of the people.
The military encouraged residents to report suspicious activities and provide timely information to security agencies to facilitate continued successes.
