The Oyo Alaafin Palace has announced the constitution of the Imamate Inauguration and Turbaning Committee ahead of the installation of the Grand Chief Imam of Oyo Kingdom, scheduled for December 6, 2025.
In a statement issued on Monday, the committee was approved by the Grand Chief Imam, Sheikh Imam Billal Husayn Akinola Akeugberu, to coordinate preparations for what is expected to be a historic and culturally significant ceremony.
The committee is chaired by Imam Daud Igi Ogun, Khadeemul-l-Muslimeen of Oyo Kingdom. Other members included:
Alhaji Chief Tajudeen Kamarise, Prince Lateef Owoade, Alhaji Rasaq Ogunbado, Dr. AbdulMumeen Hamzah, Alhaji Rauf, Dr. Ismail Abdur-Raheem Katayeyanjue, Hon. Tijani Daud, Ustaz Sulayman Esa Oke, Shaykh Mudeer Ajiginni, Alhaja Adewole, Alhaji Dr. Taofeek Lamidi (Ph.D), Dr. Mikail Adekunle Adesola, Elegbede Mayowa Rahman, Alhaji Moshood Daramola, Alhaji Teslim Abubakar, Alhaji Tijani Abideen and Princess Fatimah Owoade.
Speaking to journalists, the Grand Chief Imam’s media aide, Mallam Ibrahim Agunbiade, confirmed that the committee has already begun work. He said it is expected to deliver “a well-organised, dignified and culturally befitting inauguration in line with the rich Islamic and royal heritage of Oyo Kingdom.”
Agunbiade added that further details on the venue and programme schedule will be announced in due course.
