The Speaker, Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon Adebo Ogundoyin has advised the State Ministry of Justice to ensure the provision of effective and efficient legal services for the State.
This was just as the Speaker commended the leadership and staff of the Ministry under the headship of the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Prof Edward Oyelowo Oyewo for the successes recorded in the year ending.
Hon Ogundoyin stated this at the 2020 End of the year party organized by the Oyo State Ministry of Justice.
He charged the Oyo State Ministry of Justice to operate a system of Justice that is simpler, easier, more efficient and more responsive to people’s needs added that the Ministry remained the bedrock for democracy and good governance.
According to the Speaker, the success recorded by the 9th Oyo State House of Assembly since inception was due largely to the support received from the Oyo State Ministry of Justice.
” I am happy to be part of the End of Year program of the Oyo State Ministry of Justice. It is an occasion for the Management and Staff to take stock of their activities in the year ending and also plan for the incoming year. The importance of the Ministry cannot be underestimated as it is the one saddled with the duty of promoting and enhancing justice as well as counselling the State in all legal matters.
“The Oyo State House of Assembly is specifically grateful to the Ministry under Prof Oyewo for the legal support we have continued to receive as there is no law that passes through the Assembly without the professional input of the Judiciary. At the end of December, 2020 , Oyo State House of Assembly would have passed 61 bills into law among other achievements which are made possible because of the good working relationship existing between the Legislature and the Judiciary. ” Oyo Speaker stressed.
He also charged the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, who was just being elevated to the exalted position of a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN to use his new office , experience and expertise to reposition the sector for institutional reforms and strive to lift it higher.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Justice, Prof Edward Oyelowo Oyewo who said though the global crises caused by Covid-19 pandemic really affected the activities of the Ministry in 2020, further hinted that the Ministry still recorded outstanding success in the outgoing year.
Prof Oyelowo identified some of the achievements to include, Establishment of Sexual and Gender based violence response team and referral center, Prison decongestion, Establishment of the office of the Public Defender, Establishment of the Oyo State anti-corruption Agency and replication of Mediation services at Oyo and Ogbomoso among others.
