The 15th Biennial Police Games (BIPOGA) “Asaba 2026” officially came to a close in Delta State, with the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, praised participating officers for demonstrating discipline, unity, and excellence throughout the competition.
Delivering his closing remarks at the ceremony in Asaba, the IGP described the games as a defining moment for the Nigeria Police Force, noted that the sporting event showcased not only athletic ability but also institutional cohesion and resilience among officers drawn from various Commands and Formations nationwide.
According to him, the host city transformed into “a theatre of excellence,” where determination met opportunity and officers displayed professionalism, teamwork, and endurance across multiple sporting events, including athletics, football, combat sports, and swimming. He said the tournament reflected the true spirit of the theme, “Unity and Excellence Beyond the Badge,” which participants demonstrated through mutual respect, sportsmanship, and professionalism.
The Police Chief congratulated medalists and champions for their outstanding performances, noting that several long-standing records were broken while new standards were established during the games. He also commended officers who competed but did not secure podium finishes, stressing that courage and perseverance remain core values both in sports and policing.
Egbetokun emphasized that physical fitness and sporting excellence directly enhance operational readiness, adding that BIPOGA has continued to grow in organisation, participation, and competitive standards. He disclosed that the Force, with the support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has intensified efforts to identify and nurture elite athletes within the police, many of whom are already representing Nigeria on regional and international platforms.
He further revealed plans to expand the initiative during the forthcoming recruitment of 50,000 police constables, aimed at promoting both national security and sporting excellence.
The IGP paid tribute to officers across the country who were unable to participate due to operational commitments, acknowledging their sacrifices in maintaining peace and security nationwide. He also commended the integrity displayed throughout the competition, highlighting respect for rules, officials, and fair play as hallmarks of the tournament.
Appreciation was extended to the Delta State Government and its governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, for providing exceptional hospitality and organisation, which he said ensured the successful hosting of the national event.
He equally lauded the Force Sports Planning Committee led by AIG Fom Pam Joseph, as well as referees, medical teams, volunteers, and support staff whose contributions guaranteed a seamless and safe competition.
The police boss noted that beyond medals and trophies, the games strengthened friendships, fostered cooperation across commands, and reinforced unity within the Force. He urged officers to carry the discipline, resilience, and unity displayed during the games into their operational duties across the country.
Declaring the games officially closed, the Inspector-General expressed gratitude to God and all stakeholders who contributed to the success of the event, describing Asaba 2026 as a lasting symbol of unity and professional excellence within the Nigeria Police Force.
The ceremony marked the end of weeks of sporting activities that brought together police athletes from across Nigeria in a celebration of fitness, camaraderie, and institutional pride.
