The Nigeria Police Force has presented cheques worth over ₦54.8 million to families and next-of-kin of deceased personnel in Niger State under the Inspector-General of Police’s Group Life Assurance Scheme.
The Commissioner of Police, Adamu Abdullahi Elleman, on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, presented the cheques to about 25 beneficiary families during a ceremony held on Wednesday at the State Police Command Headquarters, Dutsen-Kura, Minna, according to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun.
Speaking during the presentation, the Commissioner described the occasion as a moment of sober reflection and remembrance of officers who lost their lives in the line of duty. He noted that the Command shares in the grief of the bereaved families and prayed for the repose of the souls of the fallen personnel.
Elleman explained that the total sum of ₦54,855,145.44 distributed to the beneficiaries formed part of the welfare initiatives of the Inspector-General of Police aimed at supporting families left behind by deceased officers. He urged the families not to see the financial support as compensation for the lives lost but as a gesture of care and solidarity from the Force.
According to him, the Group Life Assurance Scheme was designed to honour the sacrifices of officers who paid the ultimate price while serving the nation and to provide relief to their dependants.
The Commissioner further advised beneficiaries to comply with the necessary procedures required to cash their cheques and ensure the funds are used in line with the intentions of the deceased officers.
He reassured the families that the Command remained open to offering assistance whenever needed and prayed for God’s blessings upon them and safe journeys back to their respective destinations.
The presentation underscored the continued commitment of the Police leadership to prioritising personnel welfare and sustaining support systems for families of fallen officers.
