The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to bolstering security across Nigeria’s downstream petroleum sector following a strategic engagement with members of the House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum Resources (Downstream) at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.
The delegation, led by the Committee Chairman, Ikeagwuonu Ugochinyere, paid a working visit aimed at strengthening collaboration between the legislature and law enforcement authorities in safeguarding critical petroleum infrastructure and sustaining stability within the nation’s energy supply chain.
During the meeting, the committee commended the leadership of the IGP for proactive policing initiatives that have contributed to improved protection of national energy assets. The lawmakers acknowledged the Police Force’s role in maintaining operational stability during recent industry-related tensions, enhancing inter-agency cooperation, and intensifying efforts against oil theft and pipeline vandalism.
In his remarks, the IGP expressed appreciation for the committee’s recognition and reiterated the Force’s resolve to deepen intelligence-led policing, expand surveillance operations, and reinforce partnerships with relevant security and regulatory institutions to ensure uninterrupted petroleum distribution and increased investor confidence in the sector.
He further appealed for legislative support toward strengthening existing legal frameworks and improving funding for specialised personnel training, acquisition of modern surveillance technologies, and enhanced welfare packages for officers deployed to protect petroleum infrastructure nationwide.
The engagement highlighted ongoing institutional collaboration between the National Assembly and security agencies aimed at protecting strategic national assets, promoting economic stability, and ensuring reliable access to energy for Nigerians.
